National Emergency Briefing

Business Declares are supporting the National Emergency Briefing (NEB) - an initiative spearheaded by brothers Simon and Nick Oldridge, climate funders and communicators, with a background in business. This initiative calls for a National Televised Emergency Briefing on the climate and nature crisis in the UK - and science-based pathways forward for the UK to take the national, wartime level of leadership and determination that's urgently needed to avert the worst impacts of the climate and nature emergency.

The Westminster Briefings

On 27th November 2025, the UK's first National Emergency Briefing on the climate & nature crisis was held, aimed towards politicians, and leaders from business, faith, culture, sport, the media and other influential people. The UK's leading experts shared the latest evidence and cascading risks of climate and nature breakdown across all dimensions of the crisis, including:

  • Prof. Hayley Fowler on EXTREME WEATHER

  • Lt General Richard Nugee CB CVO CBE on NATIONAL SECURITY

  • Prof. Paul Behrens on FOOD SECURITY

  • Angela Francis on ECONOMICS

  • Prof. Hugh Montgomery on HEALTH

  • Prof. Kevin Anderson on CLIMATE

  • Prof. Nathalie Seddon on NATURE

  • Prof. Tim Lenton on TIPPING POINTS

  • Tessa Khan on ENERGY TRANSITION

  • Chris Packham (OPENING STATEMENT)

  • Prof. Mike Berners-Lee (CHAIR)

Altogether, the campaign has aimed to build an irresistible, collective call for the UK Government to: stage a prime-time, multi-channel televised national emergency briefing to the nation to cut through disinformation; lead a science-led, national, WW2-scale emergency response to climate and nature breakdown in the UK; and help lead stronger, coordinated global action that people across the world are calling for.

Taking it Nationwide

The National Emergency Briefing's new documentary film of the briefings, The People's Emergency Briefing, has launched on the 7th April 2026, bringing together the scientific and national implications together and taking the message across the UK.

The film is designed for communities to watch the same evidence, which is now on the public record as those briefed in Westminster, in a single accessible account - together with their MP and other local decision makers to consider what an emergency response should look like.

Screenings of the film are taking place in cinemas, workplaces, faith spaces and village halls, bringing constituents, civic leaders and MPs together to hear the evidence and ultimately back the Parliamentary Call for a Televised Emergency Briefing.
