The Queue for Climate & Nature on Friday 15th September 2023 was a quiet but powerful gathering of stakeholders and people in business, in Central London. Dressed in suits and business attire, we demonstrated business support for government action on climate and nature, in the run up to the General Election.

All professionals (business people, business leaders, employees and members of civil society) joined the Queue to request UK Political Party leaders to accelerate action on climate and nature: so that our businesses are secure, and our families, communities and nature can thrive.

The Queue opened at 12 noon from St. Paul's Cathedral at Peter's Hill, and stretched across the Millennium Bridge, with a press opportunity at 1pm, and optional networking gathering from 3-7pm nearby.

In the run up to, and following the Queue, our Amplification Toolkit was shared widely across networks, for organisations to amplify the Queue in their newsletters, websites and social media, to spread the word.

There was also an opportunity for companies to print and share their very own logo signs, to show that they were at the Queue on the day and via social media.

    Aims

We queued to add our names to an Open Letter, requesting that all UK Political Party Leaders commit to accelerating the just transition to a stable climate and restore nature, by:

    • Effective Investment in renewable energy

    • Taking action for nature

    • Ending new fossil fuel licensing in the North Sea.

Our aim was to show business support for accelerated, authentic action for climate & nature ahead of UK party conferences.

This event was initiated by Business Declares, Business Stand Up and Friends.

Our Open Letter to UK Political Parties:

The Handover of The Open Letter

Ahead of COP28, on 27th November 2023, Business leaders including Nick Martell-Bundock from Café Direct; Zoe Ruthven from Triodos Bank UK, delivered a petition with 2000 signatures from UK business leaders; calling on Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to specifically end new fossil fuel developments, take action to protect and restore nature, halt further decline by 2030 and rapidly scale up investment in renewables.

Other attendees to 10 Downing Street included Fiona Ellis and Samantha Cooper, Business Declares; Charles Perry, Sustainable Future For All and advisory panel to Business Declares; Charlotte Sewell, Business Stand Up.
