Business Declares Kx: Leaving Fossil Fuels in the Ground - Policy or Market Mechanism?

BD Kx 2 - Apr 2026 - TT Banner

On the eve of the First Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels, hosted by Colombia and the Netherlands, join us to hear from Susana Muhamad and David Ko.

Susana and David will explore two powerful approaches to climate action: Susana championing multilateralism and global cooperation, and David advancing market-based mechanisms. At this critical juncture, which path should we back? Or do we need both working in tandem? Chaired by Business Declares’ Director Sam Baker, this 45-minute session will leave ample time for audience questions and discussion.

Susana will draw upon her experience at the forefront of international climate and biodiversity negotiations, including her role as Colombia’s Environment Minister, President of COP16 on biodiversity, and her support for the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty initiative where she has helped elevate the call for a managed global phase-out of fossil fuels.

David will reference the ideas laid out in his books, including Thrive at Nature’s Pace and The Unsustainable Truth, alongside his background as a former hedge fund manager, bringing a rare insider perspective on how financial systems operate and how they might be redesigned to reward restoration and regeneration rather than extraction.
