Business Declares Kx: "Overton's Garden" - by Tom Greenwood

BD Kx 1 Aug 2026 TT Banner

For this Knowledge Xchange event, we are excited to have Tom Greenwood, Co-Founder of Business Declares member, Wholegrain Digital, who will take us through his most ambitious and personal work yet - Overton's Garden - a book inviting us to step outside of the window of acceptable thought to 'unlimit' our thinking on 'sustainability' - and discover what's been growing beyond, in order to create a better world - asking ourselves: What if the ideas we need most are the ones we are not allowed to think?

We're at a point in history where humanity faces multiple major crises - the polycrisis - and unprecedented rapid change. At the same time, real social and environmental progress has been feeling increasingly stuck or even slipping further away. Similarly, when we need new thinking more than ever, it has also felt like there has been a vacuum of inspiring, visionary, and new ideas to propel us through these times toward a more hopeful, positive future.

If the ideas we have are no longer working, where can we find new ideas and inspiration to move us forward? Perhaps we've been trapped inside the “Overton Window” of acceptable thought, not daring to look beyond the frame and see what might lie beyond. To find it, we must look outside this window of acceptable thinking. This book, “Overton’s Garden”, offers you what might be considered over 300 pages of “unacceptable thinking” to reinvigorate your mind, inviting you to not just peek through the glass, but actually step out into this garden of radical possibilities.

In this Knowledge Xchange, Tom Greenwood will invite us to join him on a daring adventure throughout his book, beyond the boundaries of mainstream environmental and social narratives, explore a neglected ecosystem of thought, and go to places that you would never expect to find in a book on sustainability and social progress. In doing so, Tom hopes that we begin to transcend the boundaries of our perspectives and socially-imposed limits, rewilding our thinking and planting new creative hope.

“It has the wisdom and breadth of a lifetime’s studies combining so many interconnected strands.”

“An opportunity to consider what it really means to be human and to act in accordance with our true nature.”

“A fabulous book - I’d encourage anyone to dive in and be taken on an adventure.”

Samantha Cooper | Director, Business Declares

The book and e-book will be published during late Summer, with the audiobook to follow in Autumn.
